A new Dawn

Hi all again, its been a little while and much has happened as well as nothing much!  Gail came home for the week that we had planned, that was almost three weeks ago now and ended up in Derriford Hospital with infected colitis the day after she arrived.  She was there 2 days and not an experience she would ever want to repeat.  It was sods law that this should happen when she was home and away from the care that she has been getting at the Christie.  We spent the rest of the week quietly not doing much but there were a couple of good times with friends visiting and a bit of time in the garden. I did get my swims with friends which was a blessing for me.  We did return earlier than we had planned as Gail's tummy was not really improving although the temperature had gone.  This led into a chemo week and again  she was not great following that.  Our friends Ang and Emma were here with us and we just spent time mainly chilling out and having some fam...

Things are looking up for our update

Hi to all of our wonderful family and friends, supporters, well wishers and helpers, we honestly dont know how we would have coped with this journey if it were not for you all.  It has been the most stressful thing for us to be going through and its a long road.  We stay positive for the most part, but have had some very sad days and heartache, wondering where this is leading us and what our future might be.  So we try to live in the moment, or in the day and on the whole that is better than thinking ahead.  But of course we cant help wondering.   Gail has her next scan on 8th September and hopefully the results and consultation on 10th, one thing we are grateful for with being at Christies and private, is that the excruciating wait for results is not prolonged.  Of course we know that ultimately its all about the results and we are hoping and praying the current treatment is working.    I did send out the good news about the cancer ma...

Life goes on, but different

Dear family and friends our wonderful supporters, a little update as its been a while. Gail has had 3 treatments of the once a week regime and it has been totally exhausting for her, having to spend days in bed with no energy at all.    The fourth week was last week where there is a reprieve, no chemo and hopes of some recovery before the next months worth.  Gail did not feel ready to come home with me for that break, needing to see how she would be.  So she stayed with her Mum where she has been so well looked after, and thankfully where she has had some really good days.  On her good days she visited her brother and popped back to the cottage where we are staying to pick up things.  There was lots of family time, with people visiting which she could enjoy for a change. The week before we had Maria come to stay to take some of the load off us, as do our girls Emma and Ang, we are ever so grateful.  We are grateful too for all the offers from fri...

Short but not so sweet

Hi lovelies, its been a little while and some will know the reason.  Last Tuesday after a few weeks of feeling bloated and not right in my tummy (which some of you will know), I registered temporarily with a local GP in Marple Bridge.  The lovely Doctor took bloods there and then at 9.30am, and at 6pm I had a call to say my Kidney filtration level was at 14, Acute Kidney Injury level and I was told to go to A&E at the local Hospital, I knew then that I would be admitted.  I was in for 6 nights on fluids to hydrate my kidneys after what they think is severe dehydration caused by diarrhea.  I did not know that the definition of this is change in frequency or volume of pooing, it just goes to show.  All scans that I had did not throw up any other concerns, but clearly the hospital did not want to let me out until my level had increased significantly.   The hospital staff have been absolutely amazing, and all my fears of being admitted to hospita...

No chemo this week

Hi to you all our wonderful supporters, just a little update.  We had a lovely week at home last week, we kept it simple but did get to see some of you lovelies and as always, those connections are an immense pleasure for us, alongside being in our own home, garden and bed.  We got in a misty swim at Bigbury, Devon on Thursday, with the usual crazy, mermaid and merman gang and I got an extra one in on Friday in Plymouth.  The sea is really warming up and it absolutely has the capacity to take away tension and stress in the moment and leaves me with happy memories for days afterwards.  Gail did have a plan to meet up with some of her buddies but her tummy got the better of her and she was really disappointed not to make it. We got to go to our Luckett Village Duck day which was a lovely opportunity to see all our neighbours, get lots of hugs and some wonderful laughs.    I got in a load of dancing too, it was wonderful.   On our way back to Marple we ...

Checking in

Hi all our dearest, we hope this finds you well and enjoying the exceptional sunny days we are having!  Gail had her 3rd Chemo Wednesday7th May and it went well, supported by our amazing girls Ang and Emma, who have committed to come up from Portishead every 2 weeks to support.   Gail was more tired this time and today (Sunday) has not been the best day with tummy grips and tiredness, which we expect but its not nice as many of you beautiful people know from personal experience.  My heart goes out to her and to everyone ever having to have chemo, its necessary and we are embracing it, but its pretty shitty too!  We have an end game and so Gail is going to tolerate it with all her might and with everyone around us, its so much easier.   What's great is she has managed to get to 3 Man City Matches with her bro over the last few weeks.   I had a week at home last week, knowing Gail was in good hands staying with her mom and needing to have...
