No chemo this week
Hi to you all our wonderful supporters, just a little update. We had a lovely week at home last week, we kept it simple but did get to see some of you lovelies and as always, those connections are an immense pleasure for us, alongside being in our own home, garden and bed. We got in a misty swim at Bigbury, Devon on Thursday, with the usual crazy, mermaid and merman gang and I got an extra one in on Friday in Plymouth. The sea is really warming up and it absolutely has the capacity to take away tension and stress in the moment and leaves me with happy memories for days afterwards. Gail did have a plan to meet up with some of her buddies but her tummy got the better of her and she was really disappointed not to make it.
We got to go to our Luckett Village Duck day which was a lovely opportunity to see all our neighbours, get lots of hugs and some wonderful laughs. I got in a load of dancing too, it was wonderful. On our way back to Marple we stopped in Portishead for a fabulous leaving party of our friends Claire and Michelle who are moving up North, there was great food, a beautiful roast cooked for loads of people by Claire herself, absolutely amazing. It was also lovely to see so many people that we only see once in a while. We were so lucky with our week having all these things to enjoy, just what we need to sooth us as we can get so overwhelmed with all that is going on with Gail’s health. A special thanks goes to our friends Phil and Fritzi, who send messages of support and actual cards telling funny stories (ones they make up about us that is), we find cards waiting for when we come home and we find them when we return to Marple Bridge, thanks for the laughter you two cause us!!
Coming to that part, we were disappointed that her 5th
Chemo has been delayed to next week because Gail has had feelings of sickness and
tummy cramps that make her not want to eat.
She has lost some weight and that’s obviously worrying, and it also
understandably affects her image of herself.
Cancer does that to us, as many of you will know, so we love to hear
that she is looking good and she really is!
Anyway, the Consultant wanted to see if she might have a blockage
between the pancreas and duodenum, so she had an x-ray yesterday and we waited all day for the
results to see if she would need a stent fitted to allow better flow of food in
and out. By 5.30 pm after all day in
hospital waiting for the report we decided nothing was going to happen and Gail’s
Consultant agreed we could go home.
This morning, we got a call to say the x ray was inconclusive,
the dye seemed to be flowing through but slow in parts and they need a closer
look. Poor Gail, that means another endoscopy and if needed
they will be able to fit the stent during the same procedure. Gail has been understandably upset that
another procedure is now needed tomorrow Friday 6th June and she
might have to stay in hospital for a few days to make sure its all working
well.
Ang and Emma are here and I am not sure what we would do
without their support, they will be sick of us thanking them for being here and
putting their lives on hold, make no mistake we would do the same for them ,
but they have gone way over and beyond any expectations we could ever have of
anyone. Gail's family are wonderful too
and being so close makes us feel safer and held whenever we need them.
Today even in the despair of hearing the news of another procedure,
Gail got her-self up and we all went to our new gym and spa place to do a
gentle Yoga class and a swim and hot tub.
It took it out of Gail to do that
and I take my hat off to her. We all
enjoyed the interlude and look forward to going again when we can.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your update. It sounds like you've hit a rough patch. And your surrounded by love to hold you tight whilst you manage the dark days.
Isn't it great that you've found open water swimming to ease a troubled soul and to meet so many wonderful kind folks. My thoughts are that you attach goodness because you are good and are bright shinning stars. Keep glowing. Love and hugs. And we're here for you. Xxxx

ReplyDeleteHi Olga and Gail or is it Ollie and Gaily? Thank you for the update and I'm so sorry to hear that Gail is going through such a tough time at the moment. I hope the planned endoscopy went well for her and sorted out the issues with her stomach. I guess that she didn’t really want to stay in hospital but hopefully the rest did her some good. I’ve read a few articles about various cancers recently and Christies certainly seems to be an incredibly pioneering hospital, so Gail is definitely in the right place, which must be very reassuring for you both.
ReplyDeleteYou two have some wonderful friends which I’m sure keeps your spirits up. We all need people like that in our lives – especially when life throws you a curveball.
Keep up with the Yoga, swimming and hot tub as I’m sure they are very relaxing and restorative.
You both missed an extremely wet swim this Thursday – not only did we get wet in the sea, as you’d expect, but it was pouring with rain. The rain was literally bouncing off the sea, which was quite spectacular. Luckily for us it wasn’t cold though.
Take very good care of yourselves and I look forward to seeing you when the time is right for you both.
