16/03/2025 Update

Hello lovely family and friends, we have found a new way to give updates on our situation by providing a blog  with a link to you all through what's app so that you can choose whether to read or not.

We are currently in a lovely holiday rental,  Goyt Cottage in Marple Bridge and feel very much at home.  We can walk to the little high street which has some lovely food shops, cafe's and pubs and the wonderful Brabyns Park,  just 5 minutes away where the doggies are enjoying running around and playing.  Given we are so far away from home, this location and home does make it feel easy and we are settling.

We are busy trying to find a furnished rental in this area as its close to the hospital and in a place that we like, but its not easy.  I am just pursing a potential let for 6 months although would hope they would let us rent for 3 months initially and another 3 if we need it.

The treatment plan is for Chemo, 2 weekly with 4 hours infusion at the hospital and a pump being attached with a slow release chemo to go home with for 48 hours.  This will be disconnected by a nurse who comes to the home.  We were very much hoping to start this 19th March, but are still awaiting a PET Scan and they wont go ahead without it.  So 26th of March is the start date with treatment potentially being for 6 months if Gail tolerates it.

Tomorrow we go to see the Consultant for the second time and he will tell us the results of the Biopsy which will tell which type of cancer it is.  Every step of this way worries us, understandably and the waiting for news and treatment is hard.    We know we are in the best hands here at Christies and they are all so lovely when we have appointments, but the wheels still seem to turn too slowly for us.

Its great being close to family and they are so supportive and available, Gail's Mum has been great stepping in and being there with us every time we go to the hospital and her Brother and family who help us stay positive.  It is the right place to be although being away from home is hard on other levels.

Gail has had her port fitted in a large vein through her chest so that it makes taking bloods and giving chemo easier.  She was so brave.  It did help that we had a private room a bit like a hotel room which I was able to enjoy whilst she went for the procedure.    A large full English was involved, they made me have it. What's nice is that family are treated with care and given attention too.  Very unlike the Surgeon at Derriford who delivered the news that it was cancer and when asked about what support Gail had, completely ignored that I said I was her partner and asked again what family she had around for support.  In this day and age that is so totally unacceptable and I should have just complained there and then, but did not quite believe what was happening.   We will be making a complaint.

So tomorrow there will be more news and no doubt we will have more to report after processing it .  For now we want you to know how much we appreciate every one of you and your messages of support.  We might not always reply directly but please know that we are grateful for you all.

Lots of love Olga and Gail

  1. My dear aunties,
I can't imagine how you both must be feeling. This is absolutely devastating. We will all stay positive for you both and just hope and pray that Gail does recover quickly.
I think the attitude of your previous doctor is disgusting, and you're right, nobody should have to feel that prejudice in this day and age. I think you should definitely complain. The opinions of people like that doesn't matter too, you're with better professionals now and you have the love and support of all your family and friends.
All the best to you both.
    Lots of love ❤️

  2. Dear Gail (and Olga, although we’ve not met) thank you so much for this update. Since hearing Gail’s news you have been in my thoughts pretty much daily. I’m so pleased you are being treated well ‘up north’ and have the support of family nearby. Cornwall is looking lovely in the sunshine today though, so I hope you can enjoy some time back here soon to recharge batteries. Supportive vibes from me and Stuart xxx
